Guest Player Scholarships
What is it?
As primarily a teaching and development band, Governor Macquarie Memorial is always in need of highly experienced players to help mentor our young people. As such, we offer scholarships for competent players between the ages of 18 - 31 to come to Sydney for one year, playing with the Band and mentoring our learners and professionals alike. Previous guest players have come from England, Scotland, Italy, Ireland and New Zealand, including from Police Scotland Fife, Field Marshall Montgomery, Coalburn IOR and New Zealand Police Pipe Band.
How does it work?
Governor Macquarie Memorial will, over the period of the 12 month scholarship, reimburse the cost of your return airfares to Sydney, and provide you with one month of accommodation and food at the commencement of your stay. We will also provide you with necessary equipment and uniforms as needed.
Aside from this, your trip is self funded.
Eligibility
We welcome applications from people who meet the following criteria.

A competent player of Bagpipes, Highland Snare Drum or Highland Tenor Drum, ideally at a Grade 3 level or above.

Eligible to obtain a visa from the Commonwealth of Australia - please note, GMM is not able to sponsor visa applications, and you will not function as an employee of ours.

A proven passion for music, teaching and development.

Between the ages of 18 and 31 on the first day of your stay in Australia.

Able to attend rehearsals, which may be held virtually or in-person from once to twice per week.
