Our Story

Established in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, Australia in 1977 as the Windsor & District Scottish Pipe Band, Governor Macquarie Memorial carries a rich tradition of musical excellence, development and community spirit spanning nearly 50 years. Our journey has seen us through several different names, with Governor Macquarie Memorial officially being named in 2017. Our founding members came together to share their love for Celtic music, and to promote the development of young people in music.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide a supportive & holistic framework for young people and adults of all skill and experience levels to learn Celtic music and personal values. We ensure the opportunity to strive for improvement, development and excellence in music, through our competition season. We foster community development through the circles we teach in, nurturing values in young people of dedication and teamwork in a fun and positive atmosphere.

Musical Excellence

Our players are dedicated musicians who have honed their skills to deliver both captivating public performances, and exceptional contest results. Governor Macquarie Memorial is comprised entirely of unpaid volunteers, competing at the top levels of the Australian & Global Pipe Band scene against full-time, paid professional bands - and we come out on top.

Community Engagement

We are avid supporters of the Western Sydney and Southern Highlands communities, with our players frequently turning out to community parades and festivals, as well as celebrations of life and community. Through educational initiatives and charity events, we strive to make a positive impact and share the joy of our music with people of all ages, in all spaces we play.
