Our Management Team

Governor Macquarie Memorial Pipe Band is formally managed as a not-for-profit association. The Association serves to provide the framework for the business and legal management of the Band, and supports our players in achieving the best results possible. The Association is managed by our volunteer team below.

Stephen Kerr

President

Steve is a highly skilled customer experience professional, and has decades of experience in the Australian Pipe Band Community. He is a highly respected playing member of Governor Macquarie Memorial, and operationally supports the Management Team in delivering strategy and operational community support.

Joanne Miller

Vice President

Joanne supports Steve in leading the Management Team as an extremely effective logistical planner; coordinating confirmation of events when the Band travels long distances, including to National Championships, as well as many other logistical roles. Professionally, Joanne is an Occupational Therapist, and has years of experience in people management.

Louwana McPake

Secretary

Louuwana is the Secretary of the Governor Macquarie Memorial Pipe Band and serves as the Assistant Drum Major. Dedicated and detail-oriented, she plays a key role in the band's administration and public presence. Louuwana supports the band's leadership on and off the field, helping coordinate performances, competitions, and community events. Her passion for Scottish heritage and pipe band tradition is reflected in her active involvement and leadership.

Madeleine Sherwood

Treasurer

Madeleine was appointed Treasurer in 2024, and manages the Association's financial dealings, including being responsible for the Finance and Accounting Team. In this role, Madeleine has responsibility for financial planning, reporting and management. Madeleine is a Customer Experience Manager professionally, and is heavily involved at senior levels of Rotary.

Barry Gray

Pipe Major

Barry is the Pipe Major of Governor Macquarie Memorial, and sits on the Management Team to represent the interests of pipers within the Band. He is a Life Member of the Association, and has been involved since 2008. Operationally, he leads the musical management of all players, including in the lead up to both engagements and contests. Professionally, he is a full-time piper & music tutor.

Michael Smith

Drum Sergeant
Michael is Governor Macquarie Memorial's Drum Sergeant, leading the Band's drummers in delivering musical excellence. He represents drumming interests on the Management Team, and takes a key role in organising engagements and providing logistical support and direction. Professionally, Michael is a full time drumming tutor and performer, across a range of traditional and contemporary styles.

Michelle Smith

Quartermaster

Michelle is one of the Association's Life Members, and in this role manages the day-to-day of our property and inventories. This includes supporting new members through uniform fitting, as well as repairs, and making sure that facilities at our venues and contests are up to scratch. Michelle professionally works in Customer Experience, and is a highly skilled Bass Drummer. She has also previously held a range of management roles in the association.

Caroline Watts

Member

Caroline is a dedicated Committee Member of the Governor Macquarie Memorial Pipe Band. A successful business owner by profession, she brings strong leadership and organisational skills to the band’s operations. Outside of her work, Caroline volunteers as a Regional Commissioner for Scouts NSW, where she supports youth development across the region.

Aaron Whybrow

Member

Aaron is a Committee Member and piper with the Governor Macquarie Memorial Pipe Band. Professionally, he is the Managing Director of Strategic Mortgage Brokers and has built a strong career in sales and lending. Aaron brings business acumen, strategic thinking, and a deep passion for piping to the band.

Dan Cook

Member

Dan is a piper and long-standing committee member of the Governor Macquarie Memorial Pipe Band. Formerly the band's Secretary, he has contributed both administratively and musically over the years. His experience and commitment to the piping tradition make him a respected and reliable part of the team.
